Gluing up the towers

What seems to work good for me when gluing the 22.5 degree tower boards is the lay them face up and tape them together. Then clamp the ends so you can flip it over without tearing the tape apart.wp-1464273136109.jpg

Then apply glue to the v-groove, undo the clamps and install band clamps around the boards.

Next I set my zeroed my digital protractor on the horizontal board and then adjusted the band clamps until the adjacent board was at 45 degrees, then just let the glue set up.

Once the glue is rubbery, use a chisel to scrape off the excess.

No progress for a while.

My grand daughter was here for a short visit and we didn’t work on the bed. The on the way back to Florida my daughter’s alternator shorted out. While my daughter and grand daughter were waiting for me to make the 3 1/2 hour drive to check on the car, they were pickup by a State Trooper who offered to take them to the next exit where they could wait in his office and at least have air conditioning. Along the way Holly started crying and said she didn’t want to go to jail. Eventually I got there and got the car going and swapped cars with her so I could bring her’s back and check it over. Got back at 11 pm and left at 6 am to go to the World Series of Poker circuit event in Cherokee, NC. Played in the senior’s event for 8 hours before getting knocked out in 92nd place out of 1144. Got paid $444 and won a little in a cash game, so I at least paid for my expenses with enough left over to buy my wife dinner.

Back at work for two days and leaving tomorrow to go to Santa Fe, NM for my grand daughter Erin’s birthday.

Next week I hope to make some significant progress and all of this goofing off.

Revised back wall

I couldn’t leave the back wall double thickness. Not only did it bother me that I had done it wrong, but I kept envisioning myself being crushed by it while try to get it up the stairs to Holly’s room. The section I took out weighed 48.4 lbs.dropping the back wall weight to a more manageable 136 lbs.

The master switch

The master switch is a lighted rocker switch that will be on the left wall behind the ladder. It will shut off the power to the transformer, shutting down all of the lighting.

I drilled holes for the mounting screws and tapped in plastic inserts. Then I cut a rectangle out of the outer layer of the wall.

Then I routed a cavity 1/2 inch deep into the second layer for clearance on the back of the switch.
